Pin Valley Trek


Pin Valley the beautiful blanket of snow below the Kungri Glacier is carved out by river Pin, a tributary of river Spiti in himachal valley. It is the land of ancient Buddhist Monasteries, Buchen Lamas and amazing tracks, providing an exciting opportunity to explore Himachal.

The cold desert of Pin Valley in Spiti District, ranging from an altitude of 3500 mts to 6000 mts is blessed with the wide range and rare variety of flora and fauna.

In the year 1987 the total area of 675 Sq Km and 115o Km as buffer zone, under Pin Valley was declared as National Park. The alpine pasture of Pin valleey trek proudly holds around 400 species of plants, medicinal herbs and spices. Juniper, Birch trees, Salix spp. & Myricaria spp are some of the rare vegetation found in this dry alpine shrub forest. As per the fauna, Pin Valley provides abode to more than 20 rare species of animals and birds. Ibex, Bharal, Red Fox, Marten, Weasel, Pika, Snow Cock, Beareded Vulture, Chukor, Golden Eagle, Griffon, Himalayan Chough, and Raven are some of the species dwelling in the national park among which Snow Leopard is the most endangered species. Pin Valley is also the home of Buchen Lamas who represent the oldest tradition of Tibetan Buddhism, Nyingma .

April, May, November and early December is the right time for animal sightings, as they can be easily traced at lower altitudes.  July & August is the best period for flora expedition as at that time nature is at its best. Essentials for the visitors are, binoculars, warm clothing’s, sleeping bags, medicines and sufficient water and ready to eat food.
